John Worboys - Parole Board fail to give consideration to full allegations

  • Posted

The High Court this week heard a case concerning John Worboys; that the Parole Board did not consider all allegations against him and only took in to account the allegations he admitted.

Mr Worboys was sentenced in 2009 to an indefinite sentence with a minimum term of 8 years to serve, after being found guilty of 19 offences; including rape, sexual assault and drugging against 12 different victims.

The Parole Board in January 2018, following an Oral Hearing, made the decision that Mr Worboys should be released after serving under 9 years.

An application was made for judicial review of the case against the decision to release him. A Judge granted the application and ruled Mr Worboys should stay in prison pending a judicial review.

The case is now being heard before the High Court with lawyers for the victim submitting representations that Mr Worboys should not be released and the Parole Board have failed to consider, what they believe is critical evidence, when considering him for release.

The decision by the Parole Board was influenced by independent psychologists who deemed Mr Worboys should be released or transferred to an open prison establishment.

The case continues before the High Court.
