Gemma Curtis, a Solicitor from our Care Team, is running the Great North Run on 9th September 2018. Gemma is doing this to raise money for the Bodie Hodges Foundation, which is the chosen charity of Emery Johnson Astills.

The Great North Run is a massive event and involves around 60,000 runners. The distance Gemma will be running is 13.1miles which is a half marathon distance which she has been training for since February and is just about ready to run.

The Bodie Hodges Foundation are working to support bereaved families and promote organ donation. Bodie Hodges was a little boy who tragically passed away aged only 10 months old. At the time his family were devastated and had another child who they still needed to care for and reassure that this wasn’t the end and that they could get through this troubling period. They were lucky enough to be able to get away from home for a bit and take some time out which really helped. As a result of this they set up the Bodie Hodges foundation to raise money to help families in similar situations and to provide them with a getaway. Bodies Boathouse is a luxurious and safe place for families to stay in Lincolnshire.

Furthermore, Bodie managed to save 4 young people’s lives following his death thanks to him being able to donate his organs. This is something the foundation wants to look at and help raise awareness of and are seeking to promote more discussion publically about organ donation.

Gemma aims to raise £450 so that she can bring a week of rest for a family who are grieving to try and ease the stress on them. If you want to learn more about the Great North Run and what Gemma is doing please follow the link below
