Leicester Half Marathon Relay

  • Posted

On the 23rd October 2016 the city of Leicester hosted the Leicester half and full marathon, many streets were closed or partially closed to allow a route for the runners. A full marathon is 26.2 miles long and the half marathon is 13.1 miles long. This year, around 500 people ran the full marathon and around 2100 people ran the half marathon.

Emery Johnson Astills were pleased to be able to enter a team in the ‘corporate relay’ where teams of four each run a smaller portion of the half marathon. This event is sponsored by Cummins Solicitors who organise the relay challenge. Proceeds from the event go to LOROS Hospice which is a Leicestershire based hospice that has touched the lives of many people. LOROS provides free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers.

Emery Johnson Astills were proud to be one of this year’s 52 teams entered into the Half Marathon Relay; with Gemma Curtis, solicitor, Rachel Diorio, trainee solicitor, Kirsty Gasson, Legal Clerk and Jade Warren all taking part. Kirsty Gasson began the challenge followed by Rachel Diorio for the second leg. Gemma Curtis took over for the third leg leaving Jade Warren to finish.

Whilst Emery Johnson Astill’s team did not come in the top 5 teams … or even the top 20, we were pleased to be the winners of the award for “The Best Team Name” chosen by the four members of the team – “Your Pace or Mine”.

The event is well supported in the city, and the Emery Johnson Astills team were all grateful to supporters along the route who offered, encouragement, water and even the odd jelly baby.

We are incredibly pleased to have a team taking part and to have raised money for such a good cause. In total the Emery Johnson Astills team raised over £400 for LOROS.
