'Tis the Season to be Jolly - Unless you are caught Drink Driving

  • Posted

As the Christmas season approaches and work comes to an end for the year, the drinks begin to flow and celebrations commence. We could not think of a better way to celebrate the Festive Period than with a drink in our hands, however here at Johnson Astills we know all too well the consequences of getting behind a wheel after ‘a few’ drinks.

Every year you can expect to see an advert on the television surrounding the consequences of Drink Driving and this year is no different. If as a result of your decision you choose to get behind the wheel and are stopped by the Police then we at Johnson Astills will be able to provide you with specialist legal advice.

Although UK accident rates have fallen significantly in recent years, consequences of seriously injuring or killing someone as a result of a drink drive collision are still high.

There are strict alcohol limits for UK drivers:

In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, the legal alcohol limit for drivers is:

  • 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath
  • 80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood

However it is virtually impossible to say to how much alcohol you can drink to fall below the legal limit, as there are many ways alcohol can affect you, including;

  • your weight, age, sex and metabolism (the rate your body uses energy)
  • the type and amount of alcohol you’re drinking
  • what you’ve recently eaten
  • medication you are taking

How we can help?

If you find yourself arrested for this offence, or any other offence Johnson Astills Solicitors can help throughout the course of the proceedings, from the Police Station through to a Court Case.
