Can I include Funeral Wishes in my Will?

Funeral wishes in a Will are not legally binding. This is because often the funeral takes place before the Will is read.

Whilst we recommend including your funeral wishes in your Will (i.e. cremation or burial), our expert solicitors at Johnson Astills can also prepare a side Letter of Wishes where you can include some more information and detail regarding your funeral, for example, the type of service you want or any specific songs to play during your ceremony. This can then be shared with your Executors and close family members so that they have this information.

At Johnson Astills our solicitors would also keep a copy of any funeral wishes alongside your Will.

We recommend speaking to family, friends and anyone appointed as an Executor in your Will regarding your funeral wishes as they have an obligation to ensure that your wishes are considered.

If you are considering including funeral wishes in your Will and would like some guidance during this difficult process, please feel free to contact our expert solicitors at Johnson Astills who would be pleased to assist you with this. You can call us at our office in Leicester or our office in Loughborough. Alternatively, you may prefer to email us at legal@johnsonastills.com or fill in our enquiry form.
