Sharon Percival

Director

Sharon joined Johnson Astills in 2012 as paralegal. She qualified in 2019 and was made Associate in 2021 and then a Director in September 2023.

Sharon has over 20 years experience working in law, having initially worked as a legal secretary in a local firm.  Sharon attended the University of Leicester and obtained her Law degree in 2005. Sharon continued her career in law after leaving university specialising in family law and domestic abuse in 2007.  She obtained her Rights of Audience, which allowed her to represent clients before District Judges and Family Magistrates in 2010.

In 2016, Sharon launched the specialised Domestic Violence and Abuse Department (DVAD) to assist clients who had been subjected to domestic abuse and required urgent protection; and also those involved in Children Act 1989 proceedings, who had previously been subjected to domestic abuse, or there was risk of harm to their children.  Sharon also assists those who have been accused of subjecting other people to domestic abuse.  The DVAD assists both legally aided and privately paying clients.  Sharon has successfully led the DVAD since 2016 and continues to do so.  The DVAD has gone from strength to strength and Sharon now has two solicitors, one of whom completed some of her training under Sharon’s supervision, and two paralegals who assist her in the day to day running of the department and advising clients.

In 2019 Sharon completed the Legal Practice Course and later that year qualified as a Solicitor.

Sharon has vast experience in all aspects of the law relating to Domestic Abuse and arrangements for children including:

  • Non-molestation and Occupation Orders
  • Protection from Harassment Act 1997 Orders
  • Arrangements for children including Parental Responsibility Orders, Child Arrangements Orders, Specific Issues Orders and Prohibited Steps Orders
