Dementia Awareness

  • Posted

This week it is Dementia Action (Awareness) Week 2018. Here at Emery Johnson Astills we are proud to be Dementia Friends. Members of our team have attended a training and awareness session with Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends.

Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia. It aims to transform the way in which people think, act and talk about the condition.

There are different types of dementia which affects the brain at different rates and in different ways. Dementia progresses in a way unique to each individual. There are 850,000 people in the UK who are affected by dementia, and it does not just affect the elderly.

Emery Johnson Astills understand how someone’s personal circumstances and the people around them will affect their experience of dementia. Our staff make every effort to support clients living with dementia and make involvement with solicitors as easy as possible.

If you are living with the early stages of Dementia you should give consideration as to whether you should make a Lasting Power of Attorney appointing attorneys who could manage your affairs should you no longer have capacity to do so. Here at Emery Johnson Astills we have expert solicitors in our Wills and Probate Team who can advise and assist you with this.

Further, it is important for you to ensure that you have written a Will and that your Will is up to date with your latest wishes. Again, the Wills and Probate Team at Emery Johnson Astills can support you with preparing your Will.

It is believed that by 2051 the number of people with dementia in the UK will have risen to 2 million. If you would like to speak to one of our solicitors about the support and/or advice we can offer you, please do not hesitate to call us on 0116 255 4855.
